After manually setting my perforce settings, I hit test connection. I get a host not found failure, check $P4PORT. TCP connect ot perforce failed, perforce: host unknown. However, I can still update the project, see history, etc, it's clearly connected to p4. Pinging the host works, and p4win works (and picks up changes I've done in intellij.)
So, for some reason, the test connection button is bombing out, even when the host is reachable. More of an annoyance, really.
I've unchecked Use P4CONFIG or default, and entered my info manually.
Use login auth is checked
Use native perforce api is checked, and the path to the executable is correct.
Server timeout is 20 seconds.
The port field is perforce:1666, from the error message, it looks like the test connection isn't parsing it correctly, since the error is "perforce: host unknown", looks like it includes the :

are all the settings (port, client, user, password) set and correct?
does the problem occurs after dialog reopening?
does the client you use in idea is the default one or not?
could you please send the dialog screenshot and the p4.output file (or simply p4 info command output ) to check the settings
