Remote pair-programming with IDEtalk

Created: 15 Nov 07 08:00   Updated: 15 Nov 07 13:47
Component/s: IDETalk

Environment: IDEtalk with or without Jabber

Build: 7,312

 Description  « Hide
To enable an ultimate remote pair-programming IDEtalk needs to be able to easily launch:
1. Desktop Sharing
2. Voice chat

Details:
I often do remote pair-programming, code review, and support with remote engineers. To do that we need to setup, start, and connect both a desktop-sharing application (e.g., UntraVNC) and a VOIP application (e.g., Skype). It takes about 5 minutes to start every collaboration (and usually an hour to set it up the first time). If we could start a collaboration with a couple of clicks from IDEtalk that would save a lot of effort and frustration. It will let us concentrate on our work rather then on the collaboration technologies.

I find it less important if IntelliJ do the desktop-sharing and voice itself or if it launches external applications and tell them the ip address, username, or whatever information they need to immediately connect.

It would be nice to have a light weight (free?) viewer for the remote peer and not require a licensed IntalliJ application installed there too. But this is a "nice to have".
