When I build using Maven and thus change the contents of the target directory, IDEA re-scans the contents even though the whole directory is excluded from the project. This freezes the IDE for a long time.

Changes in an excluded directory cause re-scan
Are you sure the target dir is excluded?
If so, could you please take cpu snapshot?
