Have you tried the existing plugin (http://code.google.com/p/mercurialidea/)?

Not yet. It seems we will be migrating to mercurial and it would be really tough without first-class support of mercurial in Idea.
Even bundled svn is a bit buggy, I'm concerned about the quality...
