IDEA: Feedback

The inability to send a message to all members of a group in one shot is a huge deficiency in IDEtalk

Created: 02 Apr 08 17:15   Updated: 08 Apr 08 17:06
Component/s: IDETalk

Build: 7,757
Severity: Medium

 Description  « Hide
IDETalk allows groups to be formed, but there does not appear to be a way to direct a message to all members of a group.

A multicast type of message is clearly useful in the context of software development. The "Chat" plugin has a multicast function (but it lacks the convenience of groups).

A secondary issue might then be the need to allow a single user to be a member of more than one group.

It may be implied in the issue description but the ability to send a message to one, more than one, or all groups
would be useful.

For efficiency, if a user was in more than one group receiving the message they should not receive multiple
copies of the message( if possible).

I had missed that this issue was raised earlier http://www.jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEA-11440.

It would be nice to get some comment back from the developers, either agreeing with or refuting the issue, and giving some indication of any intention to address it, or not

IDEtalk is not currently being actively developed. If we do resume active work on it, this will likely be addressed.

Note that IDEtalk is open-source, so if you're interested in contributing some features to it, we'll be happy to accept patches.
