I there a way to change the appearance settings for the tools panels? I have setup the editor with easy-on-the-eye colors but I can't find any way to change the rest of the screen's colors and font appearance. Why would this not be settable?

If it is not in the Settings UI is there somewhere in the configuration files I can edit it by hand?

The colors and fonts used by the standard Swing UI components (tree, list etc.) are defined by the look & feel you have selected. You can search for a L&F which supports color customization or your preferred color palette.
