I think it would be much better, and I have seen it done this way, when checking in/out, updating etc... from a repository, subversion or otherwise, to instead of having a dialog with files just flashing around in a single line to have a slightly bigger, resizable dialog with a text area and add the files you're performing actions on in that text box. This way while we're checking out for example we can make sure we're getting what we're supposed to be getting.

At the end of the checkout offer an option to keep the window open so we can look to see that everything went OK.

This is not as much of an issue when someone does an update on the repsitory because we get the info pane that pops up, but generally when you commit a file or a project IDEA just sits there locking the whole main frame and then when we get focus back we know that everything was done.
