In a solution under VSS source control, add a new class and check in the changes. Then do a safe delete on the new class (which has no usages yet) and you are asked to confirm the checkout of the file containing that new class. If the class you are deleting is the only one in that cs file, the file will be deleted and removed from the project tree. But the project file itself was never checked out, meaning that the file will be inthere the next time you get a latest version of your project
